GENERAL
DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS
|
Bis(chloroethyl) Ether, an aliphatic chlorinated ether, is a clear, volatile
liquid with a chloroform-like odor. BCEE (chlorinated ether at beta position) is slightly reactive
with water but alpha-chloroalkyl ethers react with water violently. It reacts
violently with alkali metals and strong bases. It reacts violently with
chlorosulfonic acid and oleum. It is used principally as a
feedstock in the production of fungicides. The other uses are as a solvent,
paint/rust remover, metal cleaner or degreasing agent and fat extractant. It
may also used in soil sterilization and as an ingredient herbicides;
insecticides. It is used in textile industry as a wetting agent. |
